QUEST: August 1

Vacation

So I’m here at this campground, taking my last rest day before walking the final eight miles to the monastery, and I’m joined here by other folks who are vacationing in their campers.

I have no criticism of them – they all seem like very nice people.  And I think it’s great that they’re spending their time off in the Great Outdoors.  But judging from the “comforts” they’ve brought with them (especially the screens, including satellite TVs), I wonder if they’ve truly “vacated” their normal lives.

Certainly not in the way I have.

Again, no criticism.  It’s just a reminder to me of what it truly means to “get away from it all.”  And I’m filled with gratitude for the opportunity to do so.

Thanks for following my Quest.  If you’d like to respond, please post a comment here, or  send an email to michael@michaelhume.net.  Either way, I look forward to reading your views when I return to my screen in late August.

I’m thankful you are close to the end of long walk. I have kept you in my prayers. Now the most difficult part of your quest begins. I look forward to hearing about your experiences and encounters in the monastic community.
