QUEST: July 30

Dogs

Another day, another turnout, this one 13.1 more miles down the road toward the monastery.

My dogs are barkin!’

I’ve tried to take good care of my feet during this monstrous walk.  Every morning, I tape them and wrap them and try to cushion the thousands of blows they’ll absorb throughout the day.  And every night, I treat them to a special peppermint oil and some time in compression socks.

But speaking of “dogs,” one of the big perils Kathryn and I perceived when we planned this walk was the possibility of being attacked by dogs.

I was more afraid of vicious dogs than of wildlife, like bears or cougars, simply because I don’t think bears and cougars like to hang out around paved highways very much.  But I’ve walked past many a barking, snarling dog this month.

So far, they’ve all been behind fences.  So that’s another thing for which I thank The Almighty.

I do have some “bad dog spray,” and I hope I don’t have to use it.  So far, so good.

Thanks for following my Quest.  If you’d like to respond, please post a comment here, or  send an email to michael@michaelhume.net.  Either way, I look forward to reading your views when I return to my screen in late August.
