QUEST: July 17
Turnout
Another night in Quester, after a walk of 11.7 miles. This time, Kathryn parked the camper in a paved “turnout” by the side of the road… the kind you sometimes see used by truckers, or even by campers like me.
There’s plenty of room in any turnout we use, so we don’t get in the way of any 18-wheelers. Those truckers are also salt-of-the-earth folks, and I don’t want to do anything to impede them.

It’s an interesting term these days: “Turnout.” While I’m walking from turnout to turnout on the highway, the rest of the world is worrying about the kind of turnout political parties concern themselves with during elections, like the one we’re suffering through right now.
As you know, I’m not looking at screens during my Quest, so I’m blissfully unaware of the major political twists and turns which I’m sure are happening while I’m “checked out.”
Whatever happened in the election melee today, I don’t know about it, and I don’t want to know about it. I’m sure there will be plenty left to get excited about when I get home from my Quest.
And hopefully, I will NOT excite myself with any of that.
It’s amazing how, when you truly dump your distractions and try to focus on nothing but The Lord, all the crap we all think is SO important just fades into meaninglessness.
I’ll pay attention to the election, once the Quest is over. I won’t be able to help myself. I’ll even “turn out,” I suppose, though when I re-read I Samuel 8 the other day, it reminded me why I’ve skipped some elections in my adult life. Our “kings” seem to have the same kind of “infection of evil spirits” as did King Saul.
But when I do turn the screen back on, and start learning what you already know about the blowing of the political winds, I’ll hope to view it differently. What is God saying through these events? If there’s anything important about this or any election, it’s that.
Thanks for following my Quest. If you’d like to respond, please post a comment here, or send an email to michael@michaelhume.net. Either way, I look forward to reading your views when I return to my screen in late August.
